Theology Thursdays: Against All Odds by Dr. Creflo A. Dollar

What do you do when you are facing what appears to be insurmountable odds? Your baby needs a new pair of shoes, you have a light bill, gas bill and phone bill due in addition to your rent or mortgage and you owe more than your income allows you to pay. Or perhaps you've been diagnosed with a terminal illness or other ailment and the doctor says there is no hope for you. Regardless of the situation, when Jesus is your Lord and Savior, you can overcome any odds that you are facing. The key is to know your covenant with God and have the faith necessary to remove those mountains.

Abraham was a man who knew his covenant with the Lord and had great faith. If you want to talk about someone who was facing insurmountable odds, Abraham was your man! First, God told him that nations of people would come out of him through his seed. That didn't seem to be such a stretch, except for one major challenge—both he and his wife Sarah were beyond childbearing age and Sarah was barren. This promise would require a miracle, or supernatural action that would defy nature. Imagine the kind of faith Abraham had to have to believe for something that he couldn't see and that, in the natural, he had no idea how it could even happen.

Despite what looked impossible, the Bible says that Abraham had faith and it was credited to him as righteousness (Romans 4:3). Because God had cut a blood covenant with him, Abraham was able to believe God for His promises to come to pass. Though there were times when the situation looked dismal, and challenges arose along the way, what God said eventually came to pass because Abraham believed against all odds.

Even when the Lord told him to sacrifice his only son Isaac, Abraham's faith was so strong that he was willing to go through with God's instructions; he knew that somehow, some way, God would make a way for Isaac to live in order for His promise to be fulfilled.

Just like Abraham, you have a covenant with God through Jesus! Galatians 3:13–14 says, "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us…That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith." Jesus came to the earth, through Abraham's lineage, to enable you to partake of every promise in God's Word. Healing, deliverance and financial prosperity and provision belong to you when you become a part of God's family through Jesus. By accepting Him as your Lord and personal Savior, you become a partaker of a covenant with God and He is obligated to take care of you and see to it that you have more than enough in every area of your life.

When your situation looks impossible, it is important that you not allow your emotions to move you off your faith stance; keep your thoughts focused on the Word of God. Second Corinthians 5:7 says that Believers are to walk by faith and not by sight. That means that no matter how bleak your situation may appear, you choose to see things through the eyes of faith, which is the Word of God. Whatever God says is your final authority. Even if you have a negative balance in your bank account, stand on the Word which says that God takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servants (Psalm 35:27), and that He will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).

God cannot lie. If He said it, He will do it; if He spoke it, He will bring it to pass. It pleases the Father when you have confidence in Him and trust Him completely. Because of your covenant with Him, you can rest in confidence, knowing that His Word is true and you have the ability to overcome any challenge.
